BEEKEEPING PROJECT -

WHITEHILL ALLOTMENT BEEKEEPING SECTION
EST:2009
As of writing (October 2009) the society has set up a small nucleus of willing beekeepers , those who have shown intrerest over the last six or so months in wanting to get a section up and running.
All this under the rules and guidance derived from BBKA information (British Beekeepers Association) and those drawn up by a resident beekeeper subsequently submitted to SMBC for approval.
With these rules now agreed and in place, an initial meeting was called where several persons placed their names on a list for section membership. Hopefully in time we will expand. For now though we are only a fledgling section of the allotment society and therefore are still getting set up and sorted out.
One of our members - the former society Chairman, has been actively lobbying for funding for the project and has to date secured funds towards a small shed for the section and some spare bits and bobs from the local council area funding committee (thanks to all the councillors for listening to our submission).
Membership
Membership is open to anyone interested in bees although space is limited and possibly there may have to be a waiting list set up for those not able to enquire in time (the e-mail address on this site can be used to contact us).
Rules
There are stipulated criteria attached to membership if you wish to keep colonies on site.
1) A BBKA basic course (including practical sessions) must have been attended.
2) Native Black British bee only - sorry no Italian imports!
3) Full membership for the individual to the BBKA - with liability insurance etc for the hives on site
4) 'Bee base' registration of the hives on site.
There are other citeria but these are the main ones - however membership is dependent on persons adhering to the rules of the Section.
As we develop the section and more news becomes available we shall keep the site updated.
